Clinical Interests
Rachel works with Dr Richard Hackett to provide a comprehensive neuropsychiatry service for Greater Manchester and neighbouring areas. Her general clinics are focused on diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric aspects of known or suspected neurological disease (Neuroinflammatory and neurometabolic disease, brain tumours, epilepsy, dementia, movement disorders and acquired brain injury). She also collaborates with psychiatrists in secondary care to investigate psychiatric presentations that have a suspected organic basis. She has specialist interests in cognitive neurology, organic hallucinosis and sleep medicine.
Professional Profile
Prior to reading medicine, Rachel completed a BSc (hons) in Psychology at the University of Manchester and an MSc in Neurosciences at the University of Edinburgh. Rachel graduated from University College London’s MB-PhD programme in 2006. She holds her MBBS and her PhD was focused on visual cognitive function after epilepsy surgery. She completed her foundation training at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, University College Hospital and the London Heart Hospital, core psychiatry training as an academic clinical fellow at the Maudsley and Bethlem Hospitals in South London and her higher training in general adult psychiatry at the Northwest school of psychiatry, which included specialist posts in Liaison psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry. Rachel undertook a clinical neurology fellowship after completing training and was appointed as a consultant at Salford Royal in June 2017.
