Anna Rutherford qualified from the Manchester School of Physiotherapy in 2004. She began her clinical career at Salford Royal in 2005 and has remained an employee at the trust ever since. After completing 3 years of rotations around various areas of practice, she specialised in Neuro-physiotherapy in 2008 and continued to work as a Senior Physiotherapist in Stroke, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuro-rehabilitation. Anna is now the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist on the Acute Neurology Unit based at Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences where she often cares for patients newly diagnosed with MND. She has been a part of the multidisciplinary team at the Greater Manchester MND Care Centre since 2013 and has developed a specialist interest in this area as a result. In 2015 Anna was involved in the SITraN 'Head Up' MND collar research trial and was able to involve a number of local people living with MND in the research. In 2016, Anna completed her Post-graduate diploma in Advanced Physiotherapy earning a distinction. After a recent break in 2018 to have a baby, she is now back with the team again and is keen to work to improve the care and experience of people living with MND in Greater Manchester and beyond.
