Professional Profile

Matt qualified as a doctor in Birmingham, UK, graduating in 2003. He trained as a neurosurgical registrar in the North West of England and completed neurosurgical training in 2014. He undertook specialist fellowship training at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool and at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London - gaining specialist expertise in neuro-oncology, epilepsy surgery, paediatric neurosurgery and hydrocephalus. He was appointed as a Consultant Neurosurgeon in Manchester in 2016.

Matt worked as an Adult and Paediatric Neurosurgeon at Salford Royal and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital until 2019 and now works full time in Adult Neurosurgery at Salford Royal. He has expertise in complex tumour surgery, including awake craniotomy, surgery in eloquent areas with neurophysiological monitoring under anaesthesia, neuro-endoscopic surgery and robotic surgery with the Renishaw stereotactic robot. He is a core member of the neuro-oncology multidisciplinary team and is the lead for adult hydrocephalus in Manchester.
