Neuroanaesthesia and Critical Care

Neuroanaesthesia and Critical Care

Neuroanaesthetists provide specialist care for patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures.

The team at Salford have a broad range of experience and work closely with surgeons, intensivists, neuro-radiologists and nursing teams. Our mission is  to provide excellent care and produce the best outcomes for our patients.
As one of the largest neurosurgical centres in the UK, we provide anaesthesia for a high volume of cases within the theatre complex and other locations including the interventional neuroradiology and MRI suites.
Our hospital performs approximately 7,000 neurosurgery and spinal cases per year covering all the main sub speciality areas:

  • Neuro-oncology

  • Neurovascular

  • Pituitary

  • Skull base

  • Epilepsy

  • Functional

  • Endovascular

  • Complex Spine

One of the key roles of our department is education, and we facilitate neuroanaesthetic training for junior doctors from the North West School of Anaesthesia, who rotate to us from other hospitals in the region.

In 2016, our department was amongst the first in the country to be awarded the highly regarded and prestigious ‘Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation’ by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

This peer reviewed accolade demonstrates our commitment to patient safety and achieving the highest standards of care.
